Ecogots and Arròs Montsià launch a reusable packaging made from rice husks
Our strategic partner, the Cámara Arrocera del Montsià, has developed an innovative material called Oryzite, which replaces plastic and has been recognized by the European Union. This advance is part of the current need to find sustainable and innovative solutions.
Together with Ecogots, the cooperative has created a reusable and environmentally friendly packaging made from the patented Oryzite compound. In this way, we replace plastic with processed rice husks. This is a sustainable measure, as the rice husk is a by-product of its production process and is thus used and not discarded.
Fighting against food waste
The Oryzite container not only represents an environmentally friendly alternative to plastic, but is dishwasher, microwave and freezer safe, offering a functional and environmentally friendly option for both domestic and restaurant use.
To encourage its adoption, Arròs Montsià has signed an alliance with the Federación Intercomarcal de Hostelería, Restauración y Turismo (FIHRT), which will distribute 30,000 units of the new packaging among its member establishments. This initiative will allow customers to take home what they did not consume, thus contributing to the reduction of food waste.
A sustainable solution
Álex Morales, president of the Montsià Rice Chamber, has highlighted the importance of innovation and investment in research to meet the challenges of sustainability, stressing that this collaboration with FIHRT is part of the strategy to bring sustainable solutions to the catering sector.
Arròs Montsià is known for the high quality of its rice, especially those of native varieties of the delta, with PDO Delta del Ebro Rice certification, and remains committed to meeting the needs of its customers with top quality products.
